Full Name: Hayley Jayne Smith
Date of Birth: 08/03/82
History:
Hayley spent 4 years studying engineering product design at London South Bank University, culminating
in a first class honours degree. In 2004 she was awarded the Institution of Engineering Designers' prize for
outstanding work by a final year student.
Hayley has worked for the charity MERU (Medical Engineering Resource Unit) for over 5 years, designing and manufacturing
bespoke equipment for young people with disabilities. Whilst at MERU she was instrumental in the creation of a
young people's board, to enable MERU's service users to play a greater role within the organisation.
Hayley regularly guest lectures on the Design Research for Disability MA course at London Metropolitan University, and
continues to give presentations and talks at conferences and schools on subjects as diverse as inclusive design, design
education and the role of women in engineering.
Hayley loves to spend her free time making things and cooking - her Chocolate Banoffee Pie is seriously addictive!
